The therapeutic dosage, as determined based on ANVISA’s list of simplified registration of herbal medicines (IN n. 5, 12/11/2008), is 0.50 mg to 5.0 mg of coumarin/day, which is equivalent to the concentration of 8.33 μg to 83.0 μg/kg/day, considering an average adult weight of 60.0 kg. Thus, considering that the concentration of coumarin/mL of syrup is 146 μg, a dosage of 0.5 mL/kg/day of APIGUACO® HONEY COUGH SYRUP is suggested.

This medication is an expectorant syrup that helps eliminate mucus in persistent coughs cases. Additionally, this medication has bronchodilator activity, being indicated for the relief of bronchial spasm associated with asthma attacks, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.
The therapeutic properties of guaco (Mikania glomerata) include bronchi dilation (bronchodilator action) and elimination of respiratory secretions.
The expectorant activity of this medication occurs because guaco fluidifies the mucus, making it less viscous and “looser”. This way, the mucus can be expelled more easily. Additionally, it reduces the production of bronchial secretions.
Guaco also acts as a bronchodilator, by relaxing the bronchi muscles to help open the airways and make it easier for the air to get in and out of the lungs. This reduces chest “tightness” and “wheezing”, helping you breathe easier.
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity and allergy to any of the formula component.
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Mikania glomerata extract or any other plants of Asteraceae family.
This product is contraindicated for children under 2 years old.

Original from South America, guaco (Mikania glomerata) is found throughout Brazil. It has known beneficial effects on the respiratory system.
Coumarin, and essential oils, such as kaurenoic, grandifloric, cinnamoylgrandifloric and kaurenol acids, are some of the substances of its composition. Additionally, it contains β-sitosterol, friedelin, stigmasterol, hydrolysable tannins, flavonoids and saponin.
Studies have reported that guaco causes bronchodilation and relaxation of the respiratory smooth muscles, followed by anti-inflammatory and antiallergic activities, which are extremely beneficial in the treatment of asthma and other respiratory diseases.
Honey is a natural sweet substance produced by bees from floral nectar and sugary secretions from other parts of plants.
It is composed of approximately 75 – 80% carbohydrates, 0.38% proteins, 0.1% acids from fruits and 0.2% minerals. In addition to its nutritional properties, honey provides sedative and emollient effects.
